The Chicago Public Library has 80 locations. The Chicago Public Library consists of the Harold Washington Library Center, Sulzer and Woodson regional libraries and over 75 neighborhood branches. Albany Park Branch closed 9/22/2012 for construction of a new branch expected to open in Fall 2014. Interim services had been provided in the Albany Park community. Many locations experience sporadic emergency closures due to heating or air conditioning issues, or area power outages.

Concentrations of the SARS-CoV-2 virus (the COVID-19 virus) gene in the Chicago sewer system, as measured at eight sewershed sites. These sites represent catchment areas that describe wastewater from 319,700 Chicagoans as of January 2023.

Because SARS-CoV-2 is shed in human feces, this method can be used to estimate changes in COVID-19 at different times and locations across Chicago. While the data in this dataset do not indicate how many people were infected with SARS-CoV-2, differences in the the normalized_n1 indicate whether the proportion of individuals at the site who are shedding that virus has changed.

When moisture seeps into pavement, it expands when it freezes and contracts when it thaws. This flexing of the pavement, combined with the melted water and the stress of vehicular traffic, causes pavement to deteriorate and potholes to form. The Department of Transportation (CDOT) responds to potholes reported through 311’s Customer Service Requests (CSR) system by mapping open pothole requests each morning and routing crews in geographic clusters so as to fill as many potholes as possible per day. This metric tracks the average number of days CDOT takes to complete pothole repairs per week. Total number of requests fulfilled per week is also available by mousing over columns. The target response time for pothole repairs is within 7 days. Homeless Shelter System Monthly Utilization
This metric tracks the number of shelter beds used by individuals and families per month. Overnight shelters provide nightly shelter for individuals for up to 12 consecutive hours and do not serve families with children. Interim shelters house families and individuals for up to 120 days. DFSS coordinates activities and funding to increase the availability of permanent and supportive housing services in Chicago. DFSS funds community based agencies that provide services to persons and families who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness so they can sustain safe and secure housing in the effort to achieve self-sufficiency.

COVID-19 vaccinations administered at sites in the City of Chicago, as reported by medical providers in Illinois Comprehensive Automated Immunization Registry Exchange (I-CARE). In contrast to some other COVID-19 vaccination datasets, this one focuses on vaccinations given within the City of Chicago, rather than necessarily those given to people who live in Chicago.

Daily counts are shown for the total number of doses administered, first dose, and second dose, as well as cumulative totals as of that date. Initial vaccines required two doses of vaccine to be administered over a period of time specific to each vaccine brand. At least one future vaccine only required one dose to be considered fully vaccinated. While these doses completed the series, additional doses have been approved for some situations and are included in the Total Doses columns.

Vaccinations are counted based on the day the vaccine was administered.

All data are provisional and subject to change. Information is updated as additional details are received and it is, in fact, very common for recent dates to be incomplete and to be updated as time goes on. At any given time, this dataset reflects data currently known to CDPH.

Numbers in this dataset may differ from other public sources due to when data are reported and how City of Chicago boundaries are defined.
