Lenders and title companies, please note: These data are historical in nature and should not be relied upon for real estate transactions. For transactional purposes such as closings, please consult the title commitment for outstanding enforcement actions in the Circuit Court of Cook County or the Chicago Department of Administrative Hearings. Violations are always associated to an inspection and there can be multiple violation records to one inspection record. The information presented on this website is informational only and does not necessarily reflect the current condition of the building or property. The Chicago Building Scofflaw Ordinance (Section 2-92-416 of the Municipal Code of Chicago) is designed to prevent landlords that refuse or refrain from correcting ongoing building code violations from receiving city contracts, including those that subsidize housing. Building owners must have a least three residential buildings with uncorrected violations and have had three or more properties referred to Circuit Court within the applicable 12 month period to be eligible for the list. The building code scofflaw list is updated once a year on the first business day of December, and building owners may appeal being named on the list. Building owners with controlling interest in at least three residential properties that have habitual, extensive or serioues building code violations are now ineligible for any new city contracts in 2015. The following individuals or entities have been placed on the Building Code Scofflaw list for the entire calendar year.

List of ordinance violations filed with the Department of Administrative Hearings. This data set reflects building code violations brought before the Chicago Department of Administrative Hearings. It does not reflect building code violations brought before the Circuit Court of Cook County. Each row of data represents a unique violation. Multiple violations may be associated with a single case. The most recent status of the case is shown in the dataset and is updated daily. Hearing date corresponds to the date of the most recent hearing. Each case often consists of multiple hearings and may encounter continuances due to various circumstances before a final disposition is rendered. The case disposition, date of the disposition, and any applicable fines and administrative costs are listed when the case is fully completed. The latest hearing status or disposition reflects the condition of the property at that time and may not reflect the current condition of the property. When multiple respondents are cited, each respondent is separated by a pipe ("|") character. Respondents sometimes are added to cases for technical legal reasons so are not necessarily the parties believed to have committed the violations.

Each violation is tied to a Docket Number. A Docket may have more than one violation associated with it. Fees are assessed based on all violations associated with a particular Docket. This dataset displays the most recent action (disposition description) for each violation, the fees and fines associated with the docket and the amount paid or outstanding for the docket. If the docket is a City Non-Suit or the owner is found to be Not Liable, then no payment is required. Note that multiple addresses may be associated with a violation; in these cases, multiple records will be included in this dataset for a single violation. / Data Owners: Administrative Hearings / Finance / Time Period: January 1, 2011 to present / Update Frequency: Data is updated daily

This dataset reflects the daily volume of violations created by the City of Chicago Red Light Program for each camera. The data reflects violations that occurred from July 1, 2014 until present, minus the most recent 14 days. This data may change due to occasional time lags between the capturing of a potential violation and the processing and determination of a violation. The most recent 14 days are not shown due to revised data being submitted to the City of Chicago during this period. The reported violations are those that have been collected by the camera system and reviewed by two separate City contractors. In some instances, due to the inability the registered owner of the offending vehicle, the violation may not be issued as a citation. However, this dataset contains all violations regardless of whether a citation was actually issued, which provides an accurate view into the Red Light Program. Because of occasional time lags between the capturing of a potential violation and the processing and determination of a violation, as well as the occasional revision of the determination of a violation, this data may change. Dataset
Chicago's Building Code Scofflaw Ordinance (Section 2-92-416 of the Municipal Code of Chicago) prohibits the owners of buildings that are identified as "priority buildings with serious and chronic code violations" from being awarded City contracts, receiving financial assistance from the City, or having certain applications accepted or processed by the City. Buildings on the list are also subject to follow-up inspections by the Department of Buildings at least every 12 months, and once removed from the list, continuing inspections until the building receives two consecutive inspections, at least six months apart, during which no serious violations are found. The owners of buildings included on the list are designated as "building code scofflaws."
Pursuant to the ordinance, as amended in 2021, lists of buildings are published on September 1 and March 1 of each year and lists of owners associated with those buildings are published one month later.
The structure of this dataset was modified on 9/1/2021 to be consistent with the amended ordinance.
